Toronto activates Marcum to make Sunday start

Marcum went on the DL July 2 with inflammation in his throwing elbow. The right-hander started Sunday's game against the Orioles.

The 28-year-old has bounced back from Tommy John surgery that caused him to miss the entire 2009 campaign and has pitched to a respectable 3.44 earned- run average through 17 starts this season, compiling a 7-4 record and 88 strikeouts in 107 1/3 innings.

Following Saturday's 3-2 win, the Blue Jays activated outfielder Travis Snider from the 15-day disabled list and promptly optioned him to Double-A New Hampshire. The club also designated infielder Nick Green for assignment.

The most interesting game of the opening week will feature the NFC champion Bears as they hit the road to take on the NFL’s top team during last year’s regular season, the San Diego Chargers.
